Education, Rehabilitation and Welfare Centre
in Helenów

Helenów is a complex of institutions settled in the Warsaw district of Międzylesie which focuses its efforts on providing education, treatment and welfare for people with disabilities. While the Centre is specialized in the treatment of children with Central Nervous System dysfunctions, it is currently helping around 200 kids and youngsters with developmental disorders such as autism, Asperger's syndrome and sensory integration dysfunctions.  

Helenów offers a wide range of therapies designed in order to help its residents to express themselves and develop their interest and aptitudes by painting, playing instruments or attending drama classes. It is also a national reference in the field of Hippotherapy.  
SPW volunteers take part in three different activities in Helenów.
2 Volunteers

Supporting Hippotherapy Sessions

Two volunteers are responsible for leading horses during the hippotherapy sessions that the Centre has been organizing for more than 20 years. They are also in charge of supporting the therapists and cleaning the animals.

Supporting Helenów’s Boarding School

One volunteer takes care of supporting kids in creative activities that take place after school time. The volunteer is also responsible for supervising kids during lunch and dinner and helping them with their homework.

Supporting Helenów’s Vocational School

Another volunteer collaborates with the activities organized by “szkoła branżowa” (the Vocational School of Helenów) by guiding the residents of the Centre in workshops related with topics such as art and cooking.

Location

Helenów is located in the outskirts of Warsaw. You just need one hour by public transport to reach the center of the Polish capital.

Accommodation

Each one of the volunteers shares a flat with a colleague of the same gender near the working place. One of the apartments has individual rooms, in the other, a single room is shared.

Food

Volunteers will receive 150€ to buy food. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, so they can prepare their meals. Additionally, from Monday to Friday, they can eat lunch in the canteen of Helenów.

Transport

All volunteers receive a city transport pass that allows them to use all means of public transport in the city of Warsaw.
